Weird Real Estate: It’s the Treasure Island House!

The Treasure Island House

The Treasure Island House Melds Art Deco With a Pirate Ship

From “The Best of Zillow” via the folks at Bored Panda, I bring you the Treasure Island House.

According to Insider.com, this house was built in England by magazine publisher Felix Dennis (who published Maxim magazine, among others. It was last for sale in 2021 after Dennis’s death.

It was inspired by Dennis’s love of adventure novel “Treasure Island” and tithe barns, and is divided into three distinct wings. Its main pool area is designed to resemble the inside of a pirate ship. You ho ho ho, a pirate’s life for me. Pirating must be really lucrative!

I would totally live in this 12,000 square foot house. Anyone willing to give me $6 Million?

From “The Best of Zillow” via the folks at Bored Panda, I bring you the “Super Mario Castle” in Montana.

Though I’d just call it the “hell yeah, I’d totally live in a castle” house. Could you imagine the writer retreats you could host in this place?

And the epic Renaissance Faire on the castle grounds… I’m sold.

Weird Real Estate: 1960’s Underground Ranch House (In a Bunker!)

c

From “The Best of Zillow” via the folks at Bored Panda, I bring you the 1960’s Ranch House in a bunker.

Buried deep under the Las Vegas desert, this is not the typical bunker. At 15,000 square feet, it has everything you could want in case thee’s a nuclear (or zombie) apocalypse above ground – spacious rooms, Flintstones barbecue, a wide expanse of fake grass fake growing under a fake sky…

I don’t think I could live here. I agree with Bored Panda – it does look like a bad wedding cake. Or like French Revolution Barbie thew up all over this one.

Location: Malibu, California
Asking price: $1,777,777
Did it sell?: YES!

More wonderful than weird, radio legend Dick Clark’s Flintstone’s-inspired house in Malibu was a no-brainer for our list. Believe it or not, it wasn’t actually built to look like Fred and Wilma’s beachfront vacation villa. In reality, the architect was tasked with appeasing the local home owner association (HOA), which didn’t want anything “crazy” built on the site. The design he came up with is intended to look like a natural rock formation. They accepted his design, and the rest is history.
